Cars in Germany's City Found Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Police reported they were notified by a man who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with red-colored fluid

Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Vehicles, walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.

Police say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.

The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Officials say preliminary tests suggest the substance was likely human blood.

"At present there remains no lead as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they commented.

Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the residents for information.

A senior political figure said the incident made him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.

"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, mentioning the death of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
